50 Cent's many tattoos have always been a part of the rapper's image. He's displayed them prominently on album covers and in magazines throughout his career. But the ink that made him stand out in the music world isn't serving him so well now that 50 Cent the rapper is becoming 50 Cent the rapper-actor. So Curtis Jackson (his real name) has begun the process of removing many of them with costly laser procedures.
People reports that Jackson removed some of his iconic arm tattoos, saying that not only were they limiting the roles he could play, but that having them covered up for films was getting to be a pain. Read More

Sad news is in abundance this week, starting with the former prince of pop Chris Brown. Brown, who has been vying for a way to revitalize his career following his 2009 assault on ex-girlfriend Rihanna, has resorted to desperate measures to stage his comeback.

The 20-year-old singer-dancer, who plead guilty to felony assault and is on probation for five years, recorded an audio message Wednesday on Say Now asking his fans to "bring [him] back." A humbled Brown said he needs his fans' help. "Some radio stations aren't playing my records," he said. "They're not being that supportive and I wouldn't expect them to. But it's on the fans...It's in your power to bring me back."

Brown said he is doing everything he can do. He refers to himself as a "better person" and said he is doing his music for the love, but added that his career is in jeopardy.

"It won't be possible for me to be an artist if I don't have support from people who give me an artist outlet," Brown said. "I can't be an underground mixtape artist." Read More

In the hip hop fashion world, few things are the same as in other clothing lines. Because everything in the hip hop world is out of this world, it just makes sense that it has its own clothing line. And, it is one that is fast becoming a hot seller. Sometimes, items sell out faster than they can be put on the shelves.

Because of the huge demand and the great looks of hip hop fashion, people just have to have it and wearing it, just means that you know what you are talking about. There are very few other fashion industries that have such a hardcore following. Look for hip hop fashions to keep popping up and becoming more and more available. But, who says what look is the right look to have? Hip hop fashion is largely based on what the hip hop artists are wearing. Through the use of media such as their videos, concerts, and interviews, they convey the look that is hot. Hip hop clothing, like many other types, is often designed and produced under labels of some of the hottest artists in hip hop. One such example is the G-Unit clothing line. This clothing line was designed in part by 50 Cent, a very well known and often considered on the best artists in hip hop. But, hip hop fashion also incorporates quite a bit of jewelry, the flashier the better. All of this jewelry, from spinning belt buckles to iced out watches can be purchased on the web. Read More

Thanks to the slew of rap artist wearing various urban accessories in videos, concerts and photo sessions the demand continues to expand with not only fans of the music but from the general public They have now become as much a part of the American fashion scene as blue jeans.

While the music continues to drive sales in the rap culture, the accessories continue to reveal the music in terms of sales.
The Mercedes Benz New York Fashion Week opened Thursday, Feb. 11, with New York’s designers focusing their attention on this high point of the season. But in the midst of the hustle and bustle before the week opened, Donna Karan rallied people from the fashion, art, music, and entertainment industries to hold an auction to raise money to help Haiti in the Hope Help & Relief Haiti (HHRH) event, “Night of Humanity,” held on Monday, Feb. 8, at the Urban Zen Foundation. And what did they auction? Bidders paid for tents, water treatment devices, and cooking stoves, supplies desperately needed by the earthquake survivors, in a campaign called “Tents Today, Home Tomorrow.”

Karan’s Urban Zen Foundation is working with other organizations, Partners in Health, Yele Haiti, and Habitat for Humanity, which will partner with the New York City Housing Authority to source volunteers and raise additional funds, according to a press release. The long-range goal is to help rebuild and revitalize a permanent, sustainable community in Haiti.Read More

Technological changes in the last decade made it so that you could fit your entire music collection, thousands of songs, into a contraption the size of a credit card. But beyond the boom of MP3 players, iTunes and the Internet, pop music itself changed dramatically, especially the sounds that fall under the urban umbrella-ella-ella. (Sorry. Got carried away.)

The "neo-soul" movement, which for a brief moment brought a lyrical and musical depth back to urban-pop at the close of the '90s, gave way to a colder, heavily digitalized sound in the last decade. Most of it was concocted on a laptop. Once upon a time, arrangements cushioned voices in urban music. Sure, the beat was always important, but the voice often drove it. read More

Reporting from Detroit -On the city's east side, where auto workers once assembled cars by the millions, nature is taking back the land.
Cottonwood trees grow through the collapsed roofs of homes stripped clean for scrap metal. Wild grasses carpet the rusty shells of empty factories, now home to pheasants and wild turkeys.
This green veil is proof of how far this city has fallen from its industrial heyday and, to a small group of investors, a clear sign. Detroit, they say, needs to get back to what it was before Henry Ford moved to town: farmland.
"There's so much land available and it's begging to be used," said Michael Score, president of the Hantz Farms, which is buying up abandoned sections of the city's 139-square-mile landscape and plans to transform them into a large-scale commercial farm enterprise. Read More

their design for a new housing development is located in the coastal city of beihai,
on a long, narrow waterfront site. the concept combines two typologies that most
commonly define residential developments in china: high rise towers and long, low rise
openings. this unique shape maximizes the views of the residents, but at the same time
becomes a monolithic break between the waterfront and the land behind it. Read More
